WHAT IS A PROPERTY & HOUSEHOLD GOODS BROKER?
Property and household goods broker and/or carrier is one that has applied for and has been issued a license to operate and conduct business by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (“FMCSA”) and the Department of Transportation (“DOT”) and must abide by specific rules and regulations put in place by these government entities. A Surety Bond or Trust in the amount of $75,000.00, a potential avenue for recourse in any event of consumer wrongdoing is also a requirement before being issued a license by the FMCSA and DOT. This is just the beginning in an attempt to protect and give notice to the public that the broker and/or carrier they are entering into negotiations with is accredited and in full compliance.
